Eliezer Brender

Co-Founder & Partner, CEO

Elie brings over twenty-five years of cross-asset investing and relationship management to his leadership role at the firm. He directs the firm’s investment focus and corporate strategy based on primary macro-drivers, investment themes and values. Elie began his career by obtaining his SEC/NASD Series 7, 63, 55 securities licenses at the age of only 18. In 1999, Elie was recruited by JP Morgan Chase and completed the Global Markets Training and Trading Program which gave him a comprehensive background in “global macro” and thereafter joined the Spot-FX trading desk. In 2002, Elie expanded his experience into other primary asset classes by joining a boutique investment firm focused on commercial real estate where he was responsible for portfolio underwriting and loan origination.

Soon after moving to Israel in 2007 Elie teamed up with his co-founder Eric Davis to start Exigent where he managed a number of credit arbitrage funds that returned in excess of 30% IRR’s by taking advantage of opportunities following the credit crisis (including TALF 1.0, a progra that has become a hallmark of successful Western-government intervention in capital markets), led private investments in banking and financial companies (including the early-stage investment in Cross River Bank), the restructuring of Insightec a global leader in non-invasive surgery that has achieved significant clinical and commercial milestones and the firm’s recent partnership with the Bezos and Moross families in their newly launched asset management firm HighPost Capital.

Being mission-driven and dedicated to purpose that is beyond financial gain, Elie is involved in a number of leadership initiatives focused on advancing Israel and humanity, including a keen focus on strong bilateral relations with Abraham Accords countries. At the time of his appointment, Elie was the youngest appointee to the Board of Governors, the Executive Committee, and Investment Committees at Shalem College, an institution emerging as Israel's leading institution of higher education focused on advancing the next generation of political and social leaders, promoting universal principals of democracy and economic freedom and employing a rigorous study of history and philosophy.

Elie serves as Advisory Board member of the Friedberg Economic Institute, which aims to reorient Israel’s post-graduate education model to a free-market perspective from its socialist roots, by bringing leading figures including central bankers to Israel for week-long seminars. Elie is an auto-didact in history, science, and economics. Elie attended Yeshiva University Sy Syms School of Business.

Sim Mann

Partner

Sim brings over twenty years of investment experience with a specialty and track-record executing landmark investments in Israel. Sim began his career in 1999 in the emerging high-tech sector where he worked for a number of internet start-ups. In 2007, Sim joined the Tel Aviv office of York Capital Management.

From 2007-2010 Sim was part of a two-person team based in Tel Aviv that combined with an emerging operation in London to focus on making York’s first distressed debt investments in Europe in the energy, large-scale infrastructure and real estate sectors. Within Israel, he worked on York’s post-acquisition restructure of Psagot, turning it into Israel's largest asset manager at the time and selling it to Apax Partners in 2010 for a 2.8x MOIC, as well as on investments in Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI), Zim Shipping (NYSE: ZIM), Africa Israel and IDB Development. These transactions marked the beginning of York’s activist distressed investing strategy in Israel - a hallmark moment that forced the State of Israel to upgrade its investor protection and bankruptcy code and that opened the door to a wave of significant future reforms in the corporate and financial sectors. In 2013, Sim led and managed York’s investment into Elbit Imaging (TASE: EMITF), an investment that led to Israel's largest debt-for-equity swap. In 2015, Sim led York’s first medical technology investment into Insightec, a primary subsidiary of Elbit Imaging.

After leaving York to join Exigent, Sim led a side-by-side investment by Exigent. From that point Sim was instrumental in re-directing Insightec’ s corporate strategy having directly recruited CEO Maurice Ferre and new strategic board members. In 2018, Sim facilitated the $100M investment by Koch Disruptive Technologies into Insightec in what became KDT’s first investment in Israel and the largest investment in a private Israeli healthcare company at that time. Sim is involved in several leadership initiatives including serving on the board of Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem. Sim attended Baruch College in New York.
